Beige No Skid Paint Color

Post by Brian W. »

I know it's been mentioned, but I continue to have problems with the site's search function. Our noskid on the cockpit sole is being repainted and they've got the color wrong. I saw mention of the color of the beige gel coat, but does anyone know the paint color for the Cape Dory Beige if one was just to repaint the noskid? I appologize if this has been discussed endlessly, but I want to let the yard know today before they mis-guess again.

Thanks,

Hi Brian,

I can give you a match in gelcoat. Contact Gel Coat Products at the contact info below and give them the year of your CD and they will have a matching gelcoat.

For my '83 CD30 the nonskid beige is #053097. White is #042997

I've never tried it but Z-Spar Miracote Grand Banks Beige single part polyurethane seems fairly close in color. You could also get a sample of the old color and have an automotive paint body shop supplier like Sikkens, Dupont or Sherwin Williams do a color match to the original gelcoat. Just have them mix a two part polyurethane.

Hello all,

Just one note of caution concerning adding non skid sand to the paint to give it texture. It will change the color! (darker!)

From experience I can say 1. you don't need as much sand as you might think. 2. Never pour it directly into the can of paint (make your mix in a separate container like a paper bucket). and 3. spend the money on good "fine line tape".

This what I did on my previous CD and my Dyer dink I think on my new CD I am just going to paint over the texture that is there.
