I will be sailing in the annual regatta at my yacht club soon and I am trying to prepare my Typhoon for the best possible showing with the heavy handicap of my skills. My question is, should the mast of my Typhoon be straight up or should the mast be raked back from perpendicular? What changes in the sailing characteristics of the boat when I change the mast rake? Does back mast rake affect weather helm and the shape of the main sail? Any thoughts and information would be appreciated.

Mast Rake for a Typhoon

Re: Mast Rake for a Typhoon
There is an interesting article about mast tuning at the Ensign website. Since the Ty is just a shrunken version of an Ensign, or CD22, or SS23 or, well, lots of Alberg boats, you should be able to get an idea or two. The article was written by "Moose" McClintock when he was the Ensign class champion, before he moved on to AC boats
