I'm looking for ingenious way to track down and repair a leaking water
tank. The starboard tank in the settee has a leak somewhere and drains through the floor into the bilge. I've already tried the trick of pulling the tank and blowing a vacuum into it and covering the tank with soapy water...to no avail. Should I bother trying to fix it or order a new tank from the manufacturer?

Leaking water tank on CD330

Re: Leaking water tank on CD330
Duane,
I've had something like this that has driven me nuts for years. My friends CD30 has the same thing and I'm damned if I can find a water tank leak in either boat. I did have a broken fitting once on one water tank where Cape Dory did put too short a hose on one fitting, so there may be a real reason, but having fixed that I simply cannot find another water tank reason for the water I sometimes find when sailing deeply heeled. I sometimes wonder if it's not water that has entered the boat from some other source, like the anchor chain hawse pipe and that has sat in the boat in some crevice waiting for the right time to drip out and drive me nuts!
I too would sure like to have some additional pointers on places to look for this water source.

Are you sure you have a leak? All three water tanks on a 330 have overflows that drain directly into the bilges. If you fill the tank to the top fill, all the water in the fill pipe will drain into the bilge. The overflow drains can also let water out of a full tank if the boat is heeled over more than 15 degrees.
