v-berth storage cd3

Post by Jim Newton »

I'm looking to build some additional storage space into the v-beth of our CD30. Considering shelving along the sides or a small storage locker in each corner near the head of the berth. Has anyone undertaken similar projects? Any advise or suggestions? The boat yard still has 3ft of snow so I have some time to tinker.

Jim,

We added a triangular shelf in each of the two corners of the V-Berth head area. This area is not used when we are sleeping, so the shelves, with a taffrail (heh, just a fancy little railing that the woodstore had in unfinished form)work fine for holding small things like paperbacks, watch etc. I put up an assembly with three shelves mounted on a common small frame, separated by 4 in. Attachment to the ceiling strips should be done carefully, with a wood screw that penetrates the ceiling strips 1/4 in. (predrill for the screws to avoid spltting the wood).
Also, the little area above the vberth step (in the center) makes a fair area for a door to close the area off and hold stuff in there.
Also, over the head sink is another area. By this I mean that if you do not use the head sink for anything..get rid of it and the seacock (good spare). That makes the whole area great for a hanging closet for clothes up top side, and under the sink, more shelves. We plan to place a curtain in front of the whole area to allow better air flow but keep the area separated from the head or other living areas.

It's amazing how much room there is in the CD30. Check around the water tanks too. There is some stowage in the corners, that could be segmented off and accessed via a trap door in the settee plywood.

Have Fun!!
