Grounding

Post by Dick T. »

While continuing to become as knowledgable as possible re my "new" CD31 I discovered a loose connection on the hull grounding plate and two of the solid copper leads not connected. The studs appear to be brass or bronze and the nut stainless. Any advice as to what I should do to correct the situation and provide the correct grounding system that is required/desired?
Thanks in advance,

use sandpaper to brighten up the bolts and copper wires and tighten the nuts down - stainless nuts are fine

There are two schools of thought on bonding. One school believes that throughulls and so on shouldn't be bonded the other school thinks they should be. Maybe the previous owner was of the no bond school and removed them. There is an article in one of the magazines this month about bonding. It might have been Professional Mariner or Ocean Navigator if you want to read up on the subject.
