In order to silence the critics -principally my dad, m/v Santina (Tiara 36 Open) - I would like to know if anyone has installed cleats or chocks amidships on a CD 27.
There doesn't seem to be much room; we have considered adding a chock in the toerail (to avoid chafe and wear on the teak). Running springs from the bow chock and the winch seems to work okay, but we have to choose between wet lines and worn teak.

CD 27 Midship Cleat

Re: CD 27 Midship Cleat
Duncan,
I added the Spartan chock/cleat toe rail bronze fitting to my CD26 midships. I had some hurricane damage to the toe rail when Gloria came up the New England coast in 85 so I decided to combine the repair into some useful addition to the boat. The midship cleat is designed to be mortised into the toe rail. One can just see mine on my web page just aft of the stanchion. Because of its design it does not take up any space. One must know the exact dimensions of the toe rail since it is a trapezoid and CD used a number of rail dimensions which are very close to each other.

We have a CD 30 with bronze cleats that were installed midships. I've always wondered if they were original or not. They blend in to the toe rail (they don't stick up higher than the rail). The toe rail was cut away to make room for them.
We primarily use them at the moorage for fore and aft spring lines. We have heavy tidal influance at our marina, and the aft spring line is quite handy as insurance against bumping the dock with the bow; I spliced the aft spring line to fit exactly.
