Running Westebeke 10-2 out of Water

Post by Brian Johnson »

Our CD 26 is due to go in the water in about a week. It has not been run for about 6 months so I would like to start it up before launching. The boat is powered with a westebeke 10-2. Does anyone have good suggestions for a temporary cooling water supply and how to hook it up?? Also, does the raw water system need to be primed to get water to the impellor??? Any other pitfalls that I should be aware of?? Thanks in advance,
Brian

put the engine intake hose into a bucket & keep the bucket filled with watter from a hose turned on just enough so it doesn't overflow or run out of water. A helper is nice.

I also own a rare CD26D exactly like yours. The previous owner installed a "T" fitting in the water intake hose right after the seacock. On the T he installed a ball valve and then a water hose fitting and capped it. When I run my Westerbeke out of the water, I just have to close the seacock, open the ball valve, and attach a hose to the T fitting. This is also a good setup to have in place in case you have a large leak {seacock breaks). You can use the engine as an emergency pump if you run the hose from the T into the bilge. Great Idea Huh?
Good luck
