Stuffing Box in Cape Dory Trawler 24C
The original brochure for my Cape Dory Trawler 24C, hull # 9, describes the stuffing box as "water-injected." I would like to know what kind of maintenance is required for this type of stuffing box and how it is done.
Re: Stuffing Box in Cape Dory Trawler 24C
The water comes from the engine raw water side through a small hose into the stuffing box because the suction developed when at speed and the recess of the shaft would otherwise not allow coolant to reach it. If you run the engine when it is out of the water(useing hose) you will see it comming out near the shaft pocket on the bottom. Remove hose at either source or stuffing box and if liquid is flowing it's working, if not remove and replace or clean out.Bill Adams wrote: The original brochure for my Cape Dory Trawler 24C, hull # 9, describes the stuffing box as "water-injected." The CD28 also has a wet stuffing box. My mech says this is a real nice thing. Please share more about your 24C .....Photos?...Bill Adams wrote: The original brochure for my Cape Dory Trawler 24C, hull # 9, describes the stuffing box as "water-injected."
