Westerbeke 13 on a CD 27

What a great message board! First to all those parents of toddlers and baby's who sail - great stuff – I was reading your messages - our daughter has been sailing with us on Puget Sound on our CD 27 since she was three months old.

I have a westerbeke 13 hp diesel engine on our Cape Dory. This maybe a stupid question to some of you who really know engines but here goes – I have just finished changing the oil and filters today. No problem with that but I was looking for an air filter and could not find it. I looked in the owner’s manual and it said nothing about an air filter as well. Does the Westerbeke 13 hp not have an air filter? Where is the air intake on this engine?

Your Westerbeke 13 has no air filter. I have the same configuration in my CD27. Your air intake is located above your oil filter and aft of the throttle linkage.

Generally speaking, diesel engine speed is regulated by governing the flow of air to the engine, which explains the connection between throttle linkage and the air intake.
