For jiffy reefing on a Typhoon, can a tack hook be fastened to the forward edge of the boom or must it be part of the gooseneck fitting to work properly? Advantages/disadvantages?

mine is as far forward on the boom as possible. i attached it with rivets but left it just loose enough that it would swivel if caught on a sail, rope, clothing, etc. without tearing something.
