Deck drains

Post by DON REINHART »

Hi this is a new email address as well as a question.
I have a Typhoon, with the deck drains from the cockpit going below on each side. Do these go directly to sea, or do they drain aft through the drainage system. Mine got clogged with some small leaves and I don't want to use a thru hull unless I know that is the only way to drain. Thanks

My boat is in the Marina San Carlos in Sonora Mexico.

i'll assume it is the weekender model. if so the cockpit drains both go to thru-hulls below the waterline - one port, one starboard. they can be tough to flush out due to the bends in the hose connection between the drain and the thru-hull. when hauled you can run a stiff wire from both ends while flushing with a hose. in the water try a more flexible wire and good hose pressure.
good luck and good sailing, amigo!

John, thanks for the quick response. I assumed that the bends would be tough. I will get to work.
