I have winterized my CD, engine, water systems, head. Put RV antifreze in fresh water system and pumped thru to keep some in the hoses, drains etc. also pumped thrugh to holding tank, with extra poured in as well.
Should the seacocks be left open? ( thereby realeasing the antifreeze from the drains? Should ALL seacoks be open ? including engine intake or just sink drains? How about head discharge? OR is it sufficient to have the antifreeze ?
Thanks for your help!!!

Seacocks Left open for winter?

Re: Close engine intake, leave all others open...
John,
When I winterize, the last thing that gets antifreeze is the seawater side of the engine cooling system. I close the seacock, disconnect the hose from it, elevate it and pour in antifreeze while running the engine until I see pink water exit the exhaust. Replace the hose on the seacock(it will have a little antifreeze in it) and you are done. I also leave a note on the chart table that the engine intake seacock is CLOSED(for the yard apes in the spring at re-launch!). I then pull the batteries, and then she comes out of the water, that way no one can start her up and blow out the antifreeze you put in the seawater side. Leave all other seacocks open....and open all domestic water valves too...
Hope this helps....

Re: Seacocks Left open for winter?
Leave the seacocks OPEN. Ilearned the hard way one hard winter. Water froze in the seacock and distorted the barrel to such an extent that it couldn't be repaired by milling and had to be replaced.John Johnson wrote: I have winterized my CD, engine, water systems, head.
