I am refitting my 82 25D, I want a gimballed oven, a cabin heater, hot water for shower and sink, nav station and a galley sink that doesnt break my back. I am willing to lose the starboard quarterberth [nav station-storage] I've come up with a design, but would like anyones input on what you have done to improve the galley ect. of this noble little boat.

25D galley improvement
Bruce, I'm sure many 25D owners would be fascinated to see your new plan for the galley and navigation station. Is there any way you could post it on this board? A rough sketch would do. We'd be able to offer more constructive criticism if we could actually see what you have in mind.
The quarter berth in the 25D is a major waste of space for a cruising couple and could well be put to better use. It serves the same function as the V-berths in many other boats--a collecting place for all the odds and ends that have no other homes--but on the 25D it adds weight where it's least wanted, in the stern.
Would you add a cockpit locker forward of the existing one, to gain access to the storage from the deck? And how would you arrange a chart table?

Re: 25D galley improvement
just recently read an article in "blue water sailing" that regarded the gimballed stove unnecessary if the stove/oven is arranged athwartships. this location allows for cooking even underway in most sea conditions except for the big blows and waves at which time about the only thing cooking is hot water in a very stable tea kettle.
the author also avoided underwater thru-holes by using a footpump for draining the sinks. he added a y-valve to the discharge so the pump could serve double duty as a spare bilge pump.
interesting thoughts.

I have made some not so detailed improvements to the galley aboard Rhapsody over the summer. I have photos that I took with the intent of sharing with other owners. I now have a small talbe forward of the stove and a chart table which covers the trash bin/stove area when in use and stows (its a bi-fold)in an upright position when not in use or detaches and stows in teh quarter berth.
I am awainting a fix from Hewlett Packard for my scanner, which is why I cant post the pics. While not as dramatic as your re-design, I think it would be very workable (at least coastal).
I too am currently working on "something" for the quarter berth which would include an additional bank of batteries. I would be interested in seeing you drawings.
Happy Thanksgiving

Re: 25D galley improvement
I just bought an 82 25D, and am shopping for a cabin/wife heater. So far my most attractive prospect can be seen at www.dickinsonmarine.com/newpro.htm
