I have a Watertender 9 made of High Molecular Weight Polyethylene.
The dingy has two skins and foam core. There is a crack in the
floor. No water comes in as the outer skin is ok.
Anyone know how to repair this? What will stick to this material?

Repairing Dingy

Re: Repairing Dingy
Very few things will stick to polyethylene. People mix polyesther resin in buckets made of this because it can be snapped right out once it hardens. Two things that do stick are 3Ms 5200 adhesive caulk and 3ms weatherproofing cement. Weatherproofing cement comes in black and 5200 comes in white. Sand the slick shine off the area you want to glue and then wipe with acetone before applying. Practice on something unimportant first because 5200 is forever, you're not going to scrape it off for a second try. Good luck!Mike Thompson wrote: I have a Watertender 9 made of High Molecular Weight Polyethylene.

Re: Repairing Dingy
Mike,
Sounds like Royalex to me. Talk to you friendly local Old Town Canoe dealer, or call the factory at (207)827-5513. They sell repair putty and also a full repair kit that should do the trick. Easy to use.

Re: Repairing Dingy
Thanks. The otccanoe.com web site offers a repair kit
for canoes. They claim it works for Discovery Canoes
(linear polyethylene) and Royalex Canoes (ABS/vinyl).
About $30 and enough to repair a whole dingy fleet.
Come spring....
The Old Town Canoe site is interesting with
technical info on construction materials.
