fiberglass after impact

Post by mike »

My friend (who dosen't have a computer, lucky guy)has asked me to post the following:

He has CD30 which was involved in a grounding at 3.5kts. His boat was run hard on the rocks and the impact displaced the interior about 1/2" inboard during the incident. Other than scraped paint and the interior damage, there is nothing to show for the incident.

He is wondering about the condition of the impact area (the fiberglass showed no noticable damage).

How does fiberglass react to the impact. We know it flexes, but after returning to it's normal configuration we are wondering if there is micro delamination going on there? Will the area now oil can where before it didn't? How structurally sound is the area after the impact.

Is there some way to test the glass for it's structural soundness?

Thanks,
Mike
