CD27 PROP APERTURE???

Post by yves feder w1ux »

We're wet storing this winter (won't haul for various work until March) and I'm planning to order a MaxProp around January before the spring rush..... anyone with a CD27 recall the aperture size and what size wheel you have on there?

I'm pretty sure ours is a 12" diameter (2 blade) and I believe all the CD27's are........ although I had one yard recommend enlarging the aperture to allow a 14" wheel but that seemed rather extreme!

I believe it would be safe to order a 12" wheel..... or I can wait another few weeks and check out a nearby friend's CD27 on the hard!

Well hopefully we here in S/New England will have a good sailing weekend yet coming up :)

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Yves,
I've got a 3 bladed prop and its 12 inches in diameter.

Yves:

We have a 12" prop on Remedy (CD27 #37), I forget the pitch.

You can come measure the aperture in Bristol, RI any time after Thanksgiving (maybe earlier), and I will try to remember to measure myself when we haul.

I just replaced the cutlass bearing and shaft on my 27 last spring (not for the faint of heart). The prop is a two blade 12x9. I just hauled her and I could measure the aperture for you but, off-hand, I'd say 14" is asking for trouble...

The stock 2-blade Michigan sailor on my 1982 CD-27 (Yanmar 2GM, 13HP) is a 12x14RH. I would not modify the aperature if I were you; there are plenty of prop options in the 12" size that will give you more bite. However, if you do not have more than a 1-cyl engine my opinion is that you'd be spending a lot of money for not much gain. I'd get the prop re-pitched slightly if you are hitting max revs at less than full throttle.
