I'm changing them on my newly-purchased Weekender. Any better source for bronze replacements than Spartan (whose closest fit still requires enlarging the cutout)? Thanks in advance.

Did all Typhoons come with plastic ports?

Don,
There is absolutly a better choice! I purchased two 4" bronze portlights from ABI and they make Hornet look $500 better for only $100. (I consider this one boat unit for a boat our size.) They do not open but are glass and look good. I suggest you get the interior finish rings for the small extra money if you will be spending any time below. I do not have ABI's number here but check the web.
I wrote a refit story on this boat which will come out in November's Good Old Boat magazine. It was a worthy project for a guy between jobs and the typhoon now looks better than new with those portlights!

The part number Paul is talking about.. ABI#1220BR, finish ring 1221BR. ABI won't take "street orders" you can order it through West Marine.Paul D. wrote: Don,
I installed the 4" working porthole.
ABI# 1242BR. I'm not sure how much air can move through the opening but I love the look. The cabin thickness for this is 1-1/4". I cut a 1/2" thick round teak spacer and installed that on the inside.
Good luck. Please e-mail if you have questions.
