CD 28 - installing AC power

Post by Bill »

Anyone have any ideal how much this might cost or problems one might encounter performing this task on a 1978 CD 28? Thanks for your thoughts. bill

Bill,
I installed a 4 circuit breaker panel (about $120), one GFCI duplex outlet (about $5-6), a shorepower connector (don't remember) and the appropriate wire(3 conductor, marine grade Anchor products stuff)(wire is expensive, but it does say MARINE)on Hanalei 2 years ago.

Of the 4 circuits I currently use 2, one for 120v AC in the cabin, and the other for the water heater. Two spares, one for maybe a future battery charger(don't really need it, have a real good alternator!) and the other for the MICROWAVE! (Just kidding about the microwave!)

All in all, I would think for less than $200 and a little time, you could do it easily. You do realize that this question is again going to cause the question of "Do you ground the green wire to the ships ground?" to raise it's ugly head. I DID NOT, and will probably get punched around for it, but I think it is the lesser of two evils.

By the way, since installing it, I have hooked to shorepower only once or twice, mostly to energize the duplex outlet in the cabin to power a portable tool. So, one thing you might think about, is, do you really need shorepower? Oil lamps in the main cabin are much more romantic!
