CD 28' Power - Fresh water tank leaks

Post by Jack »

When the port and the stbd FW tanks are filled until water comes out the outside vents I then get water running into the engine room from the top of the FW tanks. Is this a normal thing?

I can't figure any way to get to the top of the tanks to look for the source of the leak. Any advice will be appreciated.

You seem to have a different configuration than I do. I have hull #19, there is a 97 gallon water tank on the port side and a 120 gallon fuel tank on the stbd side. To get to the tank top and inspection ports you remove the seat cushions, go in the lockers and the bottom of the lockers is deck over the tanks. I have inspection holes in the deck to provide access to the inspection ports in the tanks. The after port piece of deck, on my boat, can be lifted out to provide access to the hoses. Our overflow for the tank drains to the bilge. I hope this is of some help. Keep me informed of your progress. It might not be the tanks leaking but a leak from rain water.

I have a 28 FB, my port watertank over flows out the filler .The stbd.fw tank vents out and over flows when over filled out a clear plastic hose into the stbd.side of the engine room I don't know if this is normal but I live with it.

From this you can infer that there are inspection ports in the top of the tanks. If it's anything like my CD 30 powerboat, they are about 4" round ports that can unscrew. And when I got the boat, they were loose enough to leak when the tank was filled.

If you can get a hand onto the top of the tanks, feel around and see if you can locate the port - and tighten it by screwing the cover clockwise. That might be enough to eliminate the leak.
