Rebuilding / rebedding the CD25 hatch?

What is bedding compound?

I have to rebuild my main hatch. It leaks, and is full of fungus. It is obvoius enough to remove all the screws, take the major parts, sand and Sikkens on all the wood, kill and repaint the inside of the hatch covers, etc. But how do I rebed it? Can I just use some silicone sealant or is there something special?
