Hi:
I am in the process of building a teak cockpit grate for our Typhoon.
It is cut, laid up & dry fitted & now I want to glue it up.
I am thinking of using resorcinol glue or probond glue or epoxy.
Has anyone done this with teak and do they have a favorite method?
I would be glad for their insights.
Thanks

Mine is screwed together, as well... at every junction.

Re: Glue for a teak grate
Dave:
The best wood-to-wood marine glue is resorcinol. It is waterproof, heatproof, and not much affected by UV rays. Epoxy is not waterproof, starts melting at about 125°F (which a cockpit grate can reach on a hot day) and is badly affected by UV rays. That's why outdoor and marine grade plywoods are glued with resorcinol, not epoxy.
Teak doesn't much like being glued. It's naturally oily. So for the best results, you might want to damp a rag with acetone and wipe it over the areas to be glued shortly before you apply the resorcinol.
