Great Vallejo Race on SF Bay

Post by Doug Gibson »

I'm not a racer, but we do participate in the Great Vallejo Race most years. It's a two day race from Berkeley to Vallejo in San Francisco Bay, running for nearly 100 years. Typically 150 - 200 boats. The first day is historically down wind, so spinnakers up. This year, the race started in about 5 knots of wind and opposing tides, but the wind kicked in and tides slacked about halfway. This photo was taken just before the winds kicked in (at which point we dropped the spinnaker). Surprised that we held our own in the light winds against many 'faster' boats (and surprised we were front an center in this photo in Latitude 38 (local magazine).
