Has anyone experienced water collecting in the area by the drain-cocks after a rain. Usually about a quart of water collects after a hard rain but doesn't get in the bilge. The water appears to come from the hatch covers in the cockpit but I have not taken the time to check this out. It has rained so infrequently in Texas the last couple of years it has not been a big concern. The hatch covers are not fastened down and don't have as large a lip as other boats I have had. Is there a good way to secure the hatches without drilling holes in them. Thanks for any advice and for all the past help I've gotten from this sight.

Typhoon Weekender Rain Water Leak

Re: Typhoon Weekender Rain Water Leak
The water is comming in from around the rudder post/deck joint - use a flexible sealer. Check, too, to see if your deck core is waterlogged. If it is, the deck flexes much more, and the sealant will not work. I do not bother to seal the teak tiller base plate. It just makes it harder to inspect the sealant next year. And taking the base plate off makes it easy to apply more Armarda next year.

Re: Typhoon Weekender Rain Water Leak
that's one habitual spot for leakage bill, but that water usually ends up in the bilge. jim, i've found that when you get a big downpour in a rainstorm and the boat is not moving, enough water collects in the cockpit that it can overflow the bridge at the companionway. even if your boards are in and all the way down, some water will find its way past. i put a strip of closed-cell weatherstripping on the bottom edge of the bottom hatchboard and this seemed to solve the problem. of course make sure the board is down tight - mine wasn't when we got a ton of rain from Floyd in PA last year and it filled my bilge and the area under the cockpit.
