CD25 forepeak used for anchor rode & chain stowage?

Post by Evan »

Do any of you fellow CD25-ers use the forepeak to store your anchor rode and chain? Did you install a hawser? I am thinking of doing this and would appreciate comments/suggestions from anyone with experience doing this on a CD25. Also, my (recently purchased) 1975 CD25 has a flat, round piece of wood (10" diameter?) in the center of the bulkhead forward of the v-berth, apparently sealing off an original opening to the forepeak. Is this opening normally accessible? Any idea why someone would seal it off? Thanks to all with any words of wisdom for me!

Evan,

That plug is the access for the dead space forward - all 25s have it. Mine are held in place by "bubble gum" and are easily pulled off and placed back on. That space is an ideal place to store anchor rode. I just installed a deck pipe for that purpose, and there are several other posts on this topic over the past week. Scroll down to Dana's post for a good photo. I would avoid the small round deck pipes in favor of a large oval.
