Where to locate extra batteries on CD 28

Post by Pembquist »

I want to add a couple new deep cycle agm to my CD 28. Currently I have two flooded batteries in the starboard locker against the bulkhead. I am thinking of putting the new batteries under the port settee in the cabin. Any advice would be welcome.

Have considered replacing your flooded cell batteries with lithium ion? You would need to change the charger, but the energy density and available depth of discharge make them really attractive. I just replaced my ~600 watt hour lead acid house battery with a 1700 watt hour LiFePO4 in the same footprint.

I have two Trojan T-105 6 volt deep cycle batteries wired in series under the quarter berth on my 36. Has worked very well as the house bank. Inexpensive, long lived, and can be charged with any standard alternator. AGMs are sealed so I don't see how it will be a problem. Take the weight shift into consideration and also the length of the cables. Check the tables for wire size necessary to avoid voltage loss over a longer distance.
