I am trying to mount a bilge pump and float switch in my weekender. I tried to drill into the lead keel and broke 3 drill bits. I am not sure why; does the heat melt the lead and cause it to seize the bit?
Any suggestion on how to do this? Would it be better to mount them to an aluminum plate and lay it in the floor of the bilge?

I mounted my bilge pump and float switch on a piece of plexiglas.

Re: Mounting Typhoon Bilge Pump
john,
i bought a Rule 500 bilge pump with the mounting bracket. i epoxied a piece of mahogany (scrap piece) to the side of the bilge just far enough back from the inspection hole that i could still remove it easily to clean the strainer if need be. the float switch is supposed to be 1/4 inch higher than the pump so i mounted the switch on a pice of 1/4 luan and used silicone sealant (bathtub sealant) to attach it to the floor of the bilge right at that lifting ring you see thru the inspection port.
