I read the 5/4/00 message on jiffy reefing and the responses. I too have a very basic question: jiffy reefing on my typhoon is set up with 2 reefing lines--1) a line led up from a fitting on the mast thru the luff cringle and then down the other side to a cleat; and 2) a line attached to one side of the boom, up thru the leach cringle, and down to a fitting on the other side of the boom. When the sail is dropped and reefed the excess sail gathers and flops around at the foot of the sail between the two reefing lines. There are no reefing points between these lines that can be used to neaten-up this baggy excess of sail at the foot of the sail. Is this just the nature of jiffy reefing or is there a way to reef without creating pockets of excess sail that droops from the boom?
