Sanitation hose replacement on CD31

Post by Mike Davis »

With great difficulty, I removed the sanitation hose on my 31. There was a kink in the hose that was difficult to get to and hard to remove. Now that the hose is out, I'd like to replace it with a more flexible hose. I would like to hear from those of you who have replace the sanitation hose. Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike.
I replaced all of the hose on my boat two years ago.
Not fun but if done properly you should not have to deal with it again for at least 10 years.
I used: Raritan Sani / Flex Sanitation Hose 1 and 1/2 inch inside diameter.
Much better than the white PVC type hose.
Very sturdy hose.
Odor proof and guaranteed for 10 years. The year of manufacture is printed on the hose.
It was flexible enough and has a steel wire reinforcement running through it so that it doesn't kink.
Not cheap, about $13 per foot.
Use a heat gun to install it or to remove the old hose.
Cut it with a hack saw.
Use two hose clamps on below-the-water-line seacocks.
I also installed a "y-valve" for offshore use - from toilet direct to overboard seacock.
Best of luck with your project.

Ha! I'm doing this for 2nd time. Do buy the good hose. Black color works better than white (I know it's impossible but seems true). Be very careful around tank fittings (don't ask, it really stinks). Consider a 90 elbow between the head pump and the run forward.
If you do have to replace the tank, good luck. I was able to buy one from original manufacturer but they don't do that anymore. If you do get a new tank get a large vent tube even if larger than the external fitting. Also get an inspection plate, ridiculously disgusting but easy better than any other debug mechanism, believe me!
Let me know if I can help more

go with the good stuff if you can. the Raritan Sani Flex Sanitation Hose is said to be very flexible which will make your job a lot easier.

i picked up the Raritan Sani Flex hose. The only place that I'm having a problem with the installation is from the bottom of the locker to the opening on top of the bilge pump. It is a very tight space and I can't get the hose through (at this point). I try it with a heat gun but the space narrow and tight. I might drill a hole on the floor of the locker where the is a wider opening to the bilge. I hope you understand where the problem is.

Mike,
My CD30 is a bit different from your CD31 but a boatyard did my first hose replacement and they enlarged the hole by sending a hole saw at an angle. Not sure if that would help here. I can send a photo over the weekend if that would help. This was in addition to adding the elbow which made things a lot better.
