CD 36 life line thread
I lost the pelican hook from one of my life lines. It appears to be a left hand thread, but I can't tell if is a 5/16 x 24 or a M8 x 1 thread. Was one or the other standard?

On a boat that old how would you know that its original? I don't think metric would have been original to the boat. Do you have another one that you could take off and go to West Marine or a store of your choice and test fit?

I would feel safe purchasing 5/16-24. Rigging only has American size lifeline fittings exclusively. Metric fittings
would only be fitted on foreign-made boats, I think. - Jean

I'm with Jean, it would be extremely surprising if it is metric.

Re: CD 36 life line thread
I ordered a 5/16"-24 Left Hand thread pelican hook from Marine Parts Depot. It would not thread onto the life line. So I took the jam nut from the life line to a local screw specialty store to confirm the thread. They didn't carry any left hand threaded fasteners, but did assure me the nut had a 5/16"-24 thread. I said that wasn't possible since it wouldn't thread onto the purchased pelican hook's threaded stud. When I got home I decided to check the thread on the stud and it turned out to 5/16"-20, not 24 as the Marine Parts Depot ad claimed. I then found a post on another web site citing the exact same issue. I have sent the wrong part back and purchased the correct pelican hook from Fisheries Supply in Seattle. The correct thread is 5/16"-24 Left Hand.

Deceptive advertising should have entitled you to a “return authorization” from the supplier so they pay all expenses associated with the transaction. You should not be out of pocket one cent.

I have never trusted marine parts depot and highly suspect all their wares are junk stainless from china.
