fuel injection pump, volvo md7a leaking
Greetings, I have a 1981 CD 28 sailboat, and the fuel injection pump is leaking..... any suggestions on getting a rebuilt one or where to have this one rebuilt?

Is it truly the pump that's leaking -or- is it one of the banjo fittings that leaks? If the later, fresh copper, crush washers may solve the problem.Smitty102460 wrote:Greetings, I have a 1981 CD 28 sailboat, and the fuel injection pump is leaking..... any suggestions on getting a rebuilt one or where to have this one rebuilt?

Likely it is the pump as the seals have given up after 40 odd years. Mine seeped for a couple of years before leaking more significantly.
Ask you local diesel mechanic who he recommends to rebuild the pump, as he should know who is reputable. I assume it is the Bosch (not the CAV). To my knowledge, there is nothing special about the pump, so any competent re-builder who does cars, trucks, tractors, agriculture pumps, generators, etc. should be able to order the kit and go at it. That said, the last one I had done (on a '82 Puegeot 505) sure wasn't cheap and took two trips to re-builder to get it to stop leaking.
In my case,1983 MD7B, I lived with the seep, and when the seep became a drip, I chose to repower, thinking it best to put the money and effort into a fresh engine. Depending on the engine condition, your use, fresh/salt water, etc., you may conclude differently. Good Luck.

Nearly everything you do to that engine is pricy and usually temporary
