Cape Dory Spars & Rigging

Post by J. Kim Houghton »

Most of the spars & rigging for Cape Dory Yachts were
produced by Spartan Spars, Cape Dory's own in-house
spar company. Prior to this time (before the mid-1970's)
they had been supplied by Rig-Rite Inc., although a few
had come from Schaefer Spars.
Spartan Spars was purchased by Rig-Rite Inc. (with
some of the other divisions) prior to the dissolution
of Cape Dory Yachts, and Rig-Rite still manufactures
these items today, as well as a large number of items
from (the now defunct) Schaefer Spars.
Today Rig-Rite offers the largest selection of sail-
boat hardware & rigging available anywhere including
the original Cape Dory stanchions & bases as well as
the Stearns & Hyde furling systems, and Nicro-Fico
traveller systems that were so common on the Cape Dory
Yachts.
