Sailing to Norway!

Post by Larry DeMers »

Hi everyone,

I have a couple good friends that are about to leave on a long trip. They will leave this May 6th from Duluth, Minn. and sail to our (old) marina on Superior for some press interviews and then they will take off for a transit of the Great Lakes, exiting in New York, then turning left and going up the coast towards Maine before starting East, towards Bergen, Norway, their eventual destination.

The vessel is a Pacific Seacraft 31 that has been beefed up in some ways, si that they can weather the Atlantic successfully.

Their trip will be covered on a web site that has just become active, and is still being worked on. Pictures and text will be posted as the trip progresses.

Web site is referenced below:

Cheers!

Take plenty of booze!

We cruised the west coast of Norway (this was quite a while ago: 1984 I think) and we loved it. The Norwegians were the most friendly people of anywhere I've ever cruised. We had a great time.

Alcohol is taxed to make it beyond the reach of most people, so take a good supply and you will be able to host some rip-roaring parties!

The trip back to the UK was not so nice. We had two days of westerly force 9 in the North Sea, and were beating off a very jagged lee shore under tri-sail and storm jib.

Best of luck to Rongevaer and crew!
Richard.

Apologies for the lack of more detail on the web site, but we just threw it together this week. Look for more info next week, after the Rongevaer's departure.
