I have an original Typhoon outboard motor mount that swings up when the outboard is in reverse. The motor itself has a latch to prevent the motor from swinging up, but it obviously cannot do its job if the entire mount swings.
This makes docking with the wind astern problematic as I have no way to slow the boat down except with very short bursts of reverse. This generally is not a problem, but two days ago with the wind ~20 knots astern, I came into the slip very "hot". My slip is the second in from the bulkhead at the marina, so very little room to maneouvre.
I was thinking of using a U bolt on the aft deck to hold the mount in place or a pad eye on the transom to tie a line from the motor mount.
Any thoughts on these two options or other ideas ?

Re: Typhoon motor mount problem
I had the same issue. I drilled a hole through the motor mount into the aft rail. I inserted a brass tapping insert into the rail and thread a brass thumb screw into the insert to hold the motor snug. The arrangement lets me quickly remove the wingnut when I want to stow the motor and securely holds against lifting in reverse.

Re: Typhoon motor mount problem
My previous TY had a ubolt with the u rising in one of the bracket holes. Adding a padlock served the purpose of holding it down and discouraging motor/bracket theft.
