I'm in the process of purchasing a new prop for my CD330 hull #142 and in speaking with a couple of prop shops; a 16" x 11 prop is best suited to the 24 hp Universal 30 engine. The boat currently has a 14" x 10 2 blade on and I am not sure that I have the clearance to go to a 16" prop. Does anybody know what the clearance is on the prop apperature on the CD330?
Thanks

Re: Prop Clearance CD330
Is the 16 x 11 prop 2-bladed or three-bladed? If it is three-bladed, I am surprised that it is the optimum prop even if the 16" diameter is OK with the aperture. My CD 33 (hull # 69) with the same Universal 24hp engine and a Hurth 2:1 reduction gear does pretty well with a 13" x 11" 3-bladed prop. With a 14 x 13 3-blade it could not reach max rated engine RPM of 2800 nor could it reach max RPM with a 13 x 13 3-bladed prop, they were both simply too large. Since a rule of thumb is that 2" of Diameter = 1" of pitch, a 16" x 11" prop just seems way too large. If you try it, I would like to know what your experience is.
