Don't forget to snap some photos while you work on that boat project, then share them here.

“Leoma” update 2/14/21

Post by JD-MDR »

Took her out again for a sea trial. 30 kt winds and gale warning. I didn't raise the main just club jib and mizzen. Makeshift tiller works good. It dawned on me that I don't think I have rudder stops. The worm drive gear doesn’t need them. That's what Edson told me. I decided to come back in. Edson finally called. They will have my steering back mid March(expensive, as warned) I'm so happy. Auto pilot is really indispensable when single handling. The dredgers were blocking the entrance. They sent their tender over to tell me to wait. I now realize that I need a hand held VHF radio. I think I will order one also some canvass to make insulated hatch covers. Since I'm caught up with essentials. I'm starting to buy comfort stuff. Like a new galley faucet. And I ordered Mustang rain gear. I wanted the double insulted floatation worksuit but I'm not committed to Alaska yet. I'm sure I'll make La Paz and probably Hawaii. I have one question. I took this part off my bowsprit and didn't reinstall it. What is it for? Should I use it?

That looks like a fitting to lash down a Fisherman style anchor.

Here is a photo of the full set and a photo of one in use. This happens to be for a danforth style anchor but similar sets exist for several different style anchors.
