Universal M18 alternator to starter cable

I am correcting a well-known problem with this model Universal. I have made a new 4 gauge jumper cable to go from the output terminal on the alternator to the starter solenoid. Is there an easy way to remove the nut where the battery cable attaches to the solenoid, or do I need to remove the alternator? It appears to a 12mm nut on the starter.

I used a shallow 1/2” socket on a long 1/4” drive extension to get to the nut on the solenoid. It was not a “straight shot” but it worked.
