After having our "new" 1977 CD27 since the fall, it was only now in the course of our spring commissioning work that I noticed she is missing the stainless trim piece that fits right on the upper edge of the transom - right under the transom teak cap rail.
At first I thought the missing piece was teak, but after looking at two other CD27's, it's definitely a piece of oval/round stainless fitted to the curve..... and held in place by a half dozen or so oval head SS philips head sheet metal self tapping screws......
I wonder if I can bend a flat piece to the transom curve, or if someone might know a source for a suitable curved piece....... I've sealed the very small gap but it would be nice to restore the trim!
Any ideas will certainly be appreciated!
Happy sailing,

source for CD27 transom stainless upper trim piece?

You might want to look in the local yellow pages for a machine shop that could fabricate the piece for you. Measure it well, (measure twice, cut once) have them drill the holes, bend it, etc. It may be a bit pricey but that is all I can think of. Good luck.

Yves:
I think that piece can be formed in place from a stock piece of stainless trim. As I recall, it is either 1/2" or 3/4" wide and about 1/8 thick in the middle. Remedy goes in on Thursday, and I will take a look then.

Or is it Aluminum?
On further reflection (I have not been to the boat) that piece may be aluminum - my recollection is that it looks more like aluminum than stainless. If so, it should be fairly easy to form to the curve of the transom, and the stock stuff from West Marine should work. I may replace mine this season (big dent from another boat at the dock); let me know if you want to split a 12' length of stock.

Quite sure the piece is stainless. Aluminum would pit very quickly. tThe piece curves in both directions, around the transom and down following the curve of the taffarail.

Yves,
I am not sure of the part you need, but if you send me a drawing or picture, I might be able to make it. I have a small machine shop, and have fabricated parts for myself and local boat owners. Contact me by e mail if interested.
