CD24 leaks

Post by Jim Stull »

I would appreciate any suggestions on the best repair proceedure to eliminate deck to hull leaking.
Is this a common problem on the CD25? The bolts are specified to be on 12 inch centers. After the repair, would additional bolts help to prevent re-occurance?
Thanks

I find it hard to believe the deck joint is leaking, Cape Dory's have
one of the best joints. Check for migrating water from deck hardware,
chain plates etc., first. I sure would not add bolts!

Thanks for the info. The boat we were looking at this week had water running down the inside the hull from somewhere above the windows (it was raining hard at the time) but there was, of course, no way to determine where it was comming from. We passed on buying that boat and now have found another which sounds very good. We will look at it soon. We have studied all the possible boats which would meet our requirements and have decided that the CD25 would be the best but were concerned that we might have to face re-sealing this joint if it was a common problem with the CD25.
