Measurement from staysail pedestal to....

Post by Sasjzl »

The previous owner of my new to me CD30 cutter chose not to use his staysail and placed an oversized windlass plate over the place that would be normally where the staysail stay would be attached. I, on the other hand really want to use the boat as originally equipped with a self jibing staysail boom. Could anyone out there do me a large favor and measure the distance between the front of the boom pedestal plate to the attachment point of the staysail stay?

Thanks very much,

I went out and measured tonight. From the center of the rear bolt on the staysail tack fitting to the center of the forward most, center bolt on the bracket, I got 11&1/4". From the center of the forward bolts on the mooring cleats to the center of the read most bolts on the pedestal base, I got 17&3/4". It is pretty tight to get a windlass and the pedestal to fit together.

I hope this was clear and it helps you out, Steve.

You will have to go very slowly with me on the nomenclature as I am new to ‘big’, to me, sailboats. I call the hardware that the forward end of the staysail boom attaches to the “staysail boom pedestal”. The plate that the staysail stay attaches to the “staysail chainplate” which is forward of the boom pedestal. What would it be if you measured from the soft most point of the boom pedestal to the most forward point of the staysail chainplate? So that both pieces of hardware are contained within this measurement. What I am worried about is that the aftermarket windlass that a previous owner installed might put the staysail chainplate, that the stay that the sail Hanks on to, too far forward.

Thanks very much,

From the of the aft bolt of the chain plate to the forward bolt of the pedestal base. From the aft pair of bolts on the pedestal to to forward bolts on the mooring cleats. All measurements are from the center lines of the bolts.
