Copper corrosion in Kracor water tank

Post by Green Horn »

Hi everyone,
I have a Kracor 24 gallon odd shaped vberth water tank (1-6067). It has a long copper tube that goes all the way to the bottom of the tank. As you can see from the pic below, the copper has corroded into the tank. The tank doesn't appear to be damaged. Has anyone dealt with this before? If I can clean the copper corrosion out I still need to deal with the corroded copper tube. I am leaning towards removing all of the copper line and run a hose into the tank. Looking to see if anyone has done this before. Thanks!

I didn't have corrosion but just bought PVC parts from McMaster-Carr to replace the pickup tube. I think that's the way to go. While you have the tank out, check for leaks around all the fittings including the plugs. My tank had leaks at about 4 of the 6 fittings.

I bought the following parts (but didn't install them yet) to make the pickup tube:
377K41 thick wall pipe fitting for drinking water
488K13 thick wall PVC pipe nipple for water
5047K41 tight seal moisture-resistant barbed fitting
4596K12 thick wall PVC pipe fitting
4687T13 thick wall threaded PVC pipe
