Typhoon Senior Cabin House Hatch Replacement Options

Post by MHBsailor »

Hello again, another project I'd like to undertake is to replace the cheap plastic cabin house hatch with a modern metal type. Have any of you done this, and if so, what brand and model did you find that fit well into the existing opening? I'd also like to add a solar-powered fan in the hatch lexan and not sure if you can order them that way, or if it requires installation? Thanks again! JD

I have no experience with a Typhoon Senior but the project is pretty straightforward. Measure the hatch opening and measure the flange to which it is attached. There are available suitably sized replacements from Jamestown (Lewmar) and Defender (Lewmar and Bomar), and many other retail outlets.
I still have the original Bomar Ocean Series hatches on Orion and they are excellent but very pricey.
When I removed my leaking midship hatch a while back I used 3M 4000UV to re-bed it and I’m very happy with its performance.
