CD25/CD27 Comparison

Post by John »

Hi,
I'm thinking of moving from a CD-25 up to a CD-27. Has anyone owned both? Or, is anyone very familiar with both? How are these two boats different, aside from the diesel. Is there significantly more interior on the 27? Do have the same feel under sail? Can I put a shower in a 27?
Thanks,
John

Hi John,
I have owned both the CD25 and the CD27. I now have a CD30 cutter they are all great boats. The CD27 has a lot more interior room than the CD25. If you are under six foot tall you can stand in the main cabin on the 27, not on the 25. As far as sailing goes the 27 is almost double the displacement of the 25. This makes the boat more stable and it has a nice solid feel under sail. I also prefer the diesel. My opinion is you get a lot more boat for the money with the 27. I don't know if a shower would work too well. There is no door to seperate the v-berth and the head. Which boat you buy really depends on how you are going using it . Having owned both I would pick the CD27.
Good luck,
Jerry

That's not been brought up in the ongoing 27 vs. 28 debate. Thanks for pointing that out.

The late model 27's [early 80's] that I looked at had doors, which closed off both the main cabin and v-berth from the head. Maybe they changed the design the last few years of production.

My CD27 1977 #66 has no door separating the V birth and head. Other differences in early vs late CD27 models seems to be the teak and holly sole in the cabin in the late models vs the fiberglass sole of the early, and the drop down table vs the fixed table in the early models. I would like to know at which hull number the changes were made.

Hi Richard,
My CD27 was hull # 166 it was a 1980. I had a teak and holly sole but no door between the V-berth and head. It also had the drop down table.

Door separating v-berth and head

Actually there is a door separating the v-berth and head on the later model 27. Mine is a 1984, #272, and has two pair of bi-fold doors that allows one to have privacy both fore and aft.
