CD boat number

Post by abutkus03 »

Recently purchased a CD 25. Is it possible the boat mf number is buried in the boat's ID number? The ID number on my boat is CPDE0216M75C. The title says it was built ion 1975. No number plaque anywhere on the boat.

Your hull number is 216. I'm pretty sure the hull id number (HID) is explained somewhere on this board, but basically it's:

CPD ........................... Cape Dory
E ............................... CD model "25"
0216 .......................... Hull Number
M75C ......................... Year and month of manufacture. "C" is a code you can look up.

In the US at least, all builders use the same HID format and must do so by law.

The plaque should be behind the rudder post below the engine hatch showing your hull #.
Hopefully it is not some former owner's souvenir!
Is there 2 small screw holes there?

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately there is no plaque. I assume I can buy one.

You can buy builder's plaque/plate from Bristolbronze.com. They have the molds.

the HIN is stamped into the starb'd side on the aft end of the boat right beneath deck level. I think it was stamped there in 1975 but maybe not And at least on "newer" boats the HIN placed in an inconspicuous place in the interior of the boat.
