Am contemplating (weather dependent) sailing my CD33, LaVida, out to Bermuda from Charleston, S.C. and then back into New York City and up the Hudson.

Anyone have any experience on this route, early May?

Any info would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
mike

Mike:

No experience on that route, but please be sure to plan a stopover at Croton Yacht Club, about 25nm north of Manhattan on the Hudson, on Haverstraw Bay. CD sailors always welcome!!

Keep us posted.

How about Bahamas to Bermuda to Chesepeake Bay in June in a CD33? Great trip! Bring plenty of water, fuel, foul weather gear and a spare GPS. The weather is unpredictable, but the 33 can handle it. We had 25 ft seas and 35 kt winds (up to 75 kt in squalls)for days, but that is rougher than normal. I would suggest bringing a storm sail and something to use as a sea anchor in case it blows. SSB and weatherfax are nice, but seem to work only until needed. Make sure your autohelm or self-steering is in excellent shape. Autohelms have a tendency to quit when it gets rough. (Try 3 days of hand steering). It is a wonderful trip. You will enjoy getting there as much as being there (maybe more). I will probably make the trip again soon in my CD28.
