Re-bedding Chain Plates & Rub Rails on a CD22 or TY Senior
Wondering if anyone out there have re-bedded the chain plates and/or rub rails on a Cape Dory 22 or Typhoon Senior? Thank you!

Yes. I have done them both on a CD 22D using butyl tape. It has been 5 years. No leaks.

Thanks Gary. I would appreciate more details about how the butyl tape method works if you would kindly provide them. Can you re-install the teak toe-rails over the butyl tape afterwards?
Also I found this interesting article from SAIL "Repairing Wooden Rubrails and Toerails" at https://www.sailmagazine.com/diy/repair ... d-toerails that had some useful information.

Here is a description of bedding hardware with butyl tape. Hope the link worked.

Gary did you notice any leaking from the plates? Or see any corrosion on baking plate?
My 1984 22 backing plates are corrosion free. But I’m not sure if they’re mild steel or aluminum...
Will have to check!
