Locking Hasps

Hi, I'm looking for locking hasps for my '75 CD25 companionway hatch, lazarette hatch, and sail lockers. Any recommended manufacturers or models? I didn't see any in RigRite. i do have an email out to Roger at Bristol Bronze. Thanks.

Here are a few varieties here but the selection is boundless if you check most of the major marine suppliers. It's difficult to recommend something without knowing the fits and clearances for your specific application. One hint if you choose to install a standard hasp on a sail locker is to install the staple on the opening hatch lid and the hasp on the fixed portion of the cockpit well. This way when the lock is removed gravity will cause the hasp to fall from the staple. I've seen them installed upside down and they are never truly open.

Very interesting.

As we lost one of our set-of-4 padlocks last summer, we have to buy a new set to replace them. But these locking hasps are interesting, and at 11 bucks, are not all that much more expensive than a 4-set. Actually, we'd probably only buy 3, and not put one on the companionway lock.

However, as we just did all the white surfaces on the decks and cockpit with 2-part poly, which is difficult to sand and feather into new paint, replacing the current hasps might be more work than we would like, unless the footprint of the hasp matches the old padlock hasps.

Something else to ponder on a cold winter's evening.
