The holding tank discussion interests me because I have my tank out for cleaning and repair, and may want to purchase a new one instead. What I am suggesting is to use the message board and e-mail as a way to determine potential interest, no only in the quantity but in the materials as well. So I'll offer to count the tallies of everyone who responds, and report back. To indicate interest, e-mail me at don@metznik.com and provide your real name, preferred e-mail address, phone number and other comments. If there are issues that the entire association can benefit from, then post them on this board as well. We'll see how this works.

CD 30 Holding Tank: Who wants to buy a new one?
Moderator: Jim Walsh
Holding Tank
The cheapest retail quote I've attained so far on the CD30 poly holding tank is about $240. Totally absurd in my opinion. We aren't talking about a new GPS or a nice handheld VHF. This thing is a no frills basic plastic tank made out of translucent milk jug material, that has a quite limited lifespan. They could be making them out of our recycled milk jugs! These tanks are a good example of how people are ripped off of their hard earned money when it comes to a boat part.Don Metznik wrote: The holding tank discussion interests me because I have my tank out for cleaning and repair, and may want to purchase a new one instead. Ronco plastics sells similar stock tanks that have the tapered shape but aren't sized correctly to fit the CD30 and they are around $150 depending on the particular model. Same material. TankDepot wants well over $300 to make a duplicate of the CD tank. Peg Hall's company wants around the $240 amount but claims the tank is minimum 3/8" thick and the best you can buy, her opinion, not mine, I know nothing about it but what she has told me in e-mails. Of course Kracor is high as well, but inferior to Peg Hall's tanks according to her.
I'm tired after days of research and coming up with ridiculous pricing and will most likely construct one. Gougeon Brothers (West System) says they have had great success building potable water, waste and fuel tanks (fuel tanks have their risks-contact Geougeon for details)before building any fuel tank.
I'm still looking into the Nauta flex tanks as a possible option.
Perhaps a tank could be constructed of Acrylite, Lexan or polycarbonate. I've made Acrylite (acrylic) water tanks before and they are very strong.
I'm still waiting to hear back from a few more companies.
