Hi all,
The knot meter on my CD 25 is kinda messed up. It often doesn't work at all, them sometimes it seems to work fine, althoug possibly reading the speed a little faster than normal.
The spinning wheel in the keel that senses the speed seems to be fine. It spins nicely. Any ideas?

Re: knot meter
When you say it spins nicely, does it have the little washers that center and constrain the impeller on the shaft? Without them, the impeller will appear to spin 'nicely' but can wobble about the shaft and sometimes not rotate so well, particulary in the water. (The hole through the impeller may be larger than the shaft diameter).eric wrote: The spinning wheel in the keel that senses the speed seems to be fine. It spins nicely. Any ideas?
If the impeller doesn't wobble on the shaft when you play with it, then the washers are probably there, doing their job.

In a parallel situation, I had a depth sounder that was behaving erratically. Sometimes it would read normally and then sometimes it would begin a countdown from the water's depth to zero, nice and slowly as if I was about to go aground. Many rushes of adrenaline later, I called a service rep at the company that made it and he gave me exact details how to adjust the sensing electronics until it behaved. It hasn't failed since. I'm not sure what type of KM you have aboard but the problem may be electrical. It's worth a try to contact them.
