Typhoon CARAL on the launch pad...
I've been ready to launch project boat "CARAL" for a few weeks. I just needed to sneak in a cruising vacation and get the stars (and tides) to line up. Tuesday is the day, so out of the boat barn she comes, and she's getting loaded up and ready. There's much more to do, but sailing her in the spring and fall shoulder seasons is the deal, and upgrades will happen in between.

Re: Typhoon CARAL on the launch pad...
Today was a perfect day for the launch and light air sail. I'm happy to have her at the mooring, and ready to go. I've got some rig tuning to do, and I plan to replace the standing rigging over the winter, so I won't push her too hard this fall. The Johnson Sailmaster 4 did not run when I bought the boat; in fact it was a complete mess! The PO did not want me to have the motor because of its condition, but my offer included the non-running outboard. It had good compression and a good spark, so I knew I could save it. A lower unit from eBay, new wires, rebuilt fuel pump, rebuilt carburetor, new recoil spring, etc and I've got a one pull starting motor running 50:1 E zero (alcohol free) fuel. I'm working on a way to carry the motor and bracket down below while on my mooring, but I'll need it on the stern when I move the boat to a slip for 2 months in mid October. The twin cylinder 4 seems perfect for the TY. We cruised today at 3.5 k at half throttle (three adult males onboard), and although we didn't measure our speed at higher throttle, I suspect we topped 5 k. Stepping the mast went very well and was very easy; getting the boat to float off the trailer was difficult, as the ramp's slope was inadequate. Haul out will need a different plan. Thanks to all of those who have posted relevant information on this site as I went through the topside painting, toerail refinishing, rigging and launching. I'm sure I'll have more questions as the "useable project boat" evolves.

What a beauty. You must be so happy and proud, both with good reason, Steve.
