CD 26 Brought Back to Life (winter 2)

Don't forget to snap some photos while you work on that boat project, then share them here.

CD 26 Brought Back to Life (winter 2)

Post by swhfire21 »

This winter I focused on the boat's DC system and installed a new AC system. Upgrades included:
  • New batteries and battery box under the stairs - Two group 27's at about 180 amp-hours (we got very little use out of the space previously)
New fixed 20 A Marine battery charger (port locker)
Replaced original fuse/switch panel with breaker panel
Added four 12 v plugs (2 fwd/2 aft) & switches for foredeck and steamer lights above original panel
    Added a Raymarine tiller pilot
Made a clamp on bracket for GPS on cabin top (can't bring myself to cut that big of a hole yet), the GPS is powered from one of the 12 V plugs in cabin
Replaced all nav lights with marine beam LEDs, including fore deck and steamer light (new wiring in mast). I replaced the original fore deck light (Sea Dog) in kind, but installed an LED bulb
Replaced all cabin light bulbs with LEDs (marine beam)
Installed new depth sounder transducer (Airmar with brass through hull) - transducer installed last year leaked
Installed a complete AC system (using ABYC wiring diagrams) to feed battery charger and two 110 V outlets in cabin - The aft receptacle is to far port just below deck where it is mostly out of sight. Forward receptacle (and the fwd. 12 v plugs) is also out of sight beneath counter top in open storage cubby hole (across from head)
Acquired a portable LED anchor light (marine beam) that plugs into cabin 12 V plugs (backed up by Coleman battery camp light)
If I did all my math right I should have enough battery capacity to sail for a day, stay out overnight comfortably and make it back to the dock the next morning/noon.

I also replaced the main halyard, main sheet and upper lazy jack lines and raised the roller furler drum by 1-1/4 inch to provide better clearance for anchor.

Note: All the photos were taken while work was in progress and before cleaning.
